Forum engine suggestions?

Many people suggest VyOS should have a forum, and I tend to agree. The problem though, I’m not an expert in forum software. Do you have any suggestions which engine to use?
Requirements:
- Open source and extensible.
- No message mangling (like Vyatta forum inserting smileys in condensed form IPv6 addresses)
- Proper support for preformatted text (or plugin available for it).
