VyOS 1.3 has reached End of Life
VyOS 1.3.x series has reached End of Life and will no longer be maintained from now on. We encourage everyone who still uses it to upgrade to VyOS 1.4.x releases.
For a quick recap: VyOS 1.3 was released in December 2021 and saw eight maintenance releases since then, up to 1.3.8 that we released in June 2024. That release line was based on Debian Buster, that had reached the end of mainstream support back in 2022 and the end of long-term support in 2024. Moreover, it still contained a large amount of legacy code that was completely rewritten since then, so backporting fixes is usually impractical because oftentimes both the configuration subsystem and the underlying implementation are completely different.
We plan to support VyOS 1.4 for at least as long — likely longer because its underlying Debian Bookworm will be supported until 2028, and even longer with the help of extended LTS offered by Freexian, that we actively sponsor.
We are now in the final stages of testing the new 1.4.2 release that addresses security issues and bugs, in addition to feature backports — stay tuned for updates!
